RAINBOW SERPENT

Artwork Created by Dale Austin

Rainbow Serpent is one the creation spirits commonly represented throughout Australia. For the Bininj (Aboriginal people) of the West Arnhem and Kakadu regions, the Rainbow Serpent shaped the rivers and landscape as it moved through the country – bringing with it the stories, lore and knowledge. The two mimih spirits (humans) in the painting are the ancestors carrying their tools which share and pass down the stories, lore and knowledge through the generations – keeping our culture and people strong.
